Enjoyed this Sali and have ordered cable labels! Like you I have lots of friends who are 'real' book diehards but I love my Kindle. I'm quite a slow reader (frustrating) and find that I read faster on it. Also enjoy trying out lots of authors via 99p deals - it's well worth signing up to BookBug for those. Although for some reason they still keep recommending me 'Seduced by the Duke' type novels
The Kindle is a godsend since I moved to needing reading glasses and can adjust the font. The Oasis sounds great for when my Paperwhite expires (probably around 2038) - physical buttons are super for when one is wearing gloves on a chilly platform.
I’m very late to the Kindle, Sali, but really seeing the benefit now I have a mini one. Don’t think mine’s waterproof, and don’t want to test that out. Risk of being clobbered on the head by bedside reading pile much reduced! And as you say, brilliant when travelling.
I’m getting the Kindle for my birthday. My old one is very very geriatric now. Love all the recommendations, Sali! The GreenPan frying pan for example is the best pan I ever bought. 😊
I so agree with you on Kindle philosophy. In addition, I once planned an unexpected interview lesson at short notice from a car hurtling up the length of France because it enabled me to instantly access all of Shakespeare and Ben Jonson!
My all time favourite model is the cheapest current one, which I bought for my partner: it's so small, light and simple and it still has a light up screen. My PW version has warm or cool light options though which is good for people who read at nighttime.
So with you on the “aren’t you hot?” brigade. I’ve got quite bad psoriasis on my knees and arms and I prefer to cover it up rather than explain my skin to random strangers- but wearing a light shirt means I have to deal with that instead 🤬
I remember when Kindle launched and I was a bit, ‘huh, not for me,’ about it. But then I was bought one for a birthday and I was immediately hooked - becoming evangelical about them.
Re the Oasis version and the ‘weighted spine’ - does that take a bit of getting used to? I like my paperwhite because it’s light and I can hold it in one hand. Does the spine add much weight?
We have a local repair shop - shout out to the East Essex Hackspace. An unassuming grey shoebox building in an Essex field where all sorts of magic happens. They hold metal and wood work workshops and also have a 3D printer where you can print your own designs. And they hold a ‘stitch and bitch’ sewing/crochet/tea and chat group one evening. Lots of nice Dad and Grandad figures there. Plus a few Nan ones.
Finally, crisps > sweets every time. Will check these recs out.
So this is a good Q because honestly, it takes so little getting used to that I had been using it and loving it for several days and couldn’t put my finger on why. So I got out my old PW (now my husband’s) and realised what they’d done. It’s way more realistic and natural.
Thank you. I have also just made a £24 order on that crisp website after thinking, “oh I’ll just take a look,” and then getting totally sucked in. The extra thick Inessence ones are out of stock but that didn’t stop me. Crisps are life.
The cos jumper - I thought I’d gotten lucky and found one on Vinted but it’s super long - past my bum. I did get a large though. Would you say the one you have is tucking in sort of length please?
Years ago I was a sales associate in a store in a fancy mall. It was winter and as it gets very cold where I live, I was wearing a bulky sweater. That one day though, the heat in the store was on high and it was uncomfortable. Thing is I was busy so I eventually stopped noticing until someone said “aren’t you hot?”
Also a huge fan of the kindle. I just bought a new paperwhite (my old one eventually died) but now I wish I had splurged on the oasis. Oh well.
Thank you so much. I’ve now watched the 13 minute video of the Slab crisps review 😂 I feel seen. Also just taken the plunge with Kindle as I realised that my 12 kg limit for trekking in Nepal next month was going to be pretty challenged by my book habit. And makeup habit. And skincare habit….
Another Sunday treat! Bought the Saie bronzer a bit ago on your recommendation, and love it. I’ve just ordered the cable labels and going to look into the repair cafes- what a superb idea. At my work we have a Man Shed (not just men, but that name stuck) and people go on a lunchtime to make things, repair things or just have a chat. It started off as an effort to get men to open up and talk more and it’s grown and grown. Plenty of women go along too. It sounds very similar. How great that such places exist! Anyway I know I’ve told you this before and not trying to be sycophantic but you really are the best friend we all need with everything you write and broadcast. Never stop! Xx

Lol at seduced by the duke.

Oh I wish I had a Repair Cafe near me, sounds amazing!
Thank you! Particularly excited about the Repair Cafe I have just found located near me!
Yay. They are amazing.
Love this! Thanks Sali ❤️❤️
Always look forward to your favourites… excellent read. Thank you ❤️

Thanks for a great post once again.

The parcel comes so quickly and the zero postage is a big incentive.

Both jumpers in the carts. Hoping the urge to press checkout goes as I really don’t have the cash after my son’s recent wedding.
Sad there is no local mending cafe. I wonder how to start one up. Men in Sheds never reopened after the plague years.
Love these posts but they’re lethal if I’m bored!
